The new strain of the Coronavirus has crossed the border to other countries after it has killed 213 people in China, while the danger is over its head and alarming health experts.

Here is some information we know about the virus and what science has not been able to detect so far:

*From where he came?

Scientists and experts believe that the virus originated late last year in a food market in the Chinese city of Wuhan, where wild animals were sold illegally. Health experts suspect that the first outbreak of the virus may have been in bats and then passed on to humans, possibly through another type of organism.

The WHO reported a few cases of pneumonia in Wuhan at the end of December. A week later, Beijing confirmed that it had identified a new virus.

* How big is the risk?

The new virus, which scientists refer to briefly (2019-NCOV), belongs to the coronavirus family, which is a family of viruses that includes common colds and more serious diseases such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

There are a wide range of symptoms that are associated with infection with the Coronavirus, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath and difficulty.

It is not clear how dangerous the new virus is for life. Although severe cases can cause pneumonia and death, there may be many more moderate cases that go unnoticed. Many of those killed by the virus originally had diseases, were elderly, or had weak immune systems.

How is the infection transmitted and ways to avoid it?

Coronavirus can be passed from person to person, but it is not clear how easy it is to transmit the infection. Most of these cases were of people in Wuhan, family members of the injured, or medical workers.

Often infection is transmitted by an infected person through droplets when the patient breathes, coughs or sneezes, or by touching an infected person or something contaminated with the virus before a person touches his mouth, nose, or eyes.

To reduce transmission, WHO recommends frequent washing of hands, covering the mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, and avoiding close contact with patients.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says those who develop symptoms of cough and fever within 14 days of their return from China should contact a health care professional to determine if they need a test.

There is no vaccine yet to prevent the disease.

* Where has it spread?

The vast majority of the nearly 10,000 identified cases were in China, mostly in Wuhan and its surrounding areas. Other countries that have been confirmed as infected include Australia, Cambodia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, UAE, USA and Vietnam.

The World Health Organization is closely monitoring cases of transmission from person to person outside the Chinese city of Wuhan, which may indicate that the virus may have the potential to spread further. There are at least 8 cases in which the infection has passed from person to person in four countries outside of China, including the United States, Germany and Japan.

* What do the authorities do?

The Chinese government has effectively isolated Wuhan in an effort to stop the virus from spreading. A number of foreign governments, including the United States, have warned their citizens against traveling to China and started taking their citizens out of Wuhan.

The WHO has not made recommendations to impose travel or trade restrictions with China.

* Is it similar to SARS?

The new virus is a strain of coronavirus, just like SARS, which killed nearly 800 people worldwide in 2002 and 2003.

But in contrast to SARS, which also originated in China, it is believed that the new virus has the potential to spread during the incubation period, which may range from one to 14 days, before symptoms appear on the infected person.

Although the new virus is not as deadly as SARS, the overall number of cases is generally greater.
