Ramallah – (dpa):
The Palestinian leadership will hold an emergency meeting today, Tuesday, amid calls for angry demonstrations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, in conjunction with the announcement of the American century deal for peace with Israel.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called the Palestinian leadership for an emergency meeting this evening in the city of Ramallah at seven oclock local time, according to the official Palestinian News Agency reported.
The meeting will coincide with the date of announcing the American peace plan which the Palestinians reject and consider that it aims to settle their cause and side with Israel.
The meeting is scheduled to include members of the Executive Committees of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the central of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah), and secretaries of the organization’s factions.
US President Donald Trump announced yesterday that his peace plan would be published today, expressing his belief that the Palestinians would eventually support the plan and that a number of Arab countries considered it a good start.
The secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Saeb Erekat, confirmed today to stick to the two-state solution on the borders occupied by Israel since 1967.
Erekat said, on Twitter, after his meeting in the West Bank Nikolai Miladonov, the UN envoy for the Middle East peace process, that the Palestinian position is committed to ending the occupation and a two-state solution on the 1967 borders.
He added that the Palestinian position adheres to the refusal to settle and annex Palestinian lands, and that the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, on top of which are Resolution 2334, and the Arab Peace Initiative are the basis for a lasting and comprehensive peace.
The Palestinian factions called for angry demonstrations in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip and a daily declaration of anger today and tomorrow to condemn the American deal.
And Hamas considered that the American Century deal “a new catastrophe for the Palestinian people and a dual American-Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people.”
Yesterday evening, the Palestinian presidency called on Arab and Muslim ambassadors to boycott the ceremony of declaring the American “Deal of the Century” as “a conspiracy aimed at undermining the rights of our Palestinian people and thwarting the establishment of the state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
