The Cameroon Football Association has announced the change of the date of the African Nations Cup, which will be hosted by Cameroon in the next edition 2021.
According to the Cameroon Football Association, via its official page on Twitter on Wednesday, the tournament will be held in the winter, specifically from January 9 to the sixth in February.
The last version, which was held in Egypt during the past year, was held in the summer, when the tournament witnessed the coronation of the Algerian national team for the second time in the history of “Desert Warriors”.
According to press reports, officials from the African Union held a meeting with officials in Cameroon in order to know the latest preparations of the country to host the African event.
The Minister of Sport of Cameroon, Narcis Moyle Combe, has previously stated in statements to his country’s official television that the establishment of the tournament in January is due to climatic conditions at this time.
For his part, the president of the African Union, Ahmed Ahmed, said that it is difficult to hold the tournament in its next version due to the FIFA Club World Cup and climatic conditions.
It is worth noting that Cameroon would have organized the last version before the African Union decided to change the host country due to the delay in Cameroon’s construction work to be held in Egypt in the end.
