Today, Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attacked what he described as “haters of Turkey in Libya.” Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, commander of the Libyan National Army, vowed the day after the latter refused to sign a ceasefire in the country after talks led by Russia and Turkey in Moscow yesterday. .
“We will not hesitate to teach Haftar the necessary lesson,” if the commander of the national army continues his military actions against the armed militias in Tripoli and some cities in western Libya, “Anatolia news agency quoted Erdogan as saying.
The Turkish parliament had agreed to send Turkish troops to Libya earlier.
Erdogan said: Those who ask why Turkey is in Libya are ignorant of politics and history. Had Turkey not intervened, Haftar would have taken over the whole country.
The Turkish president justified his stances in Libya, saying: We cannot remain idle …. and at the same time they show their hatred towards Turkey.
Erdogan claimed that Hifter initially agreed to the ceasefire and then fled from Moscow. And this is despite Moscow’s announcement that Hifter asked for a deadline to respond, while Turkey-backed Serag signed the agreement directly.
Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Moscow talks “did not reach a final result”, but he said that Russia and Turkey intend to continue efforts in this direction.
