The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum said today, Thursday, that France requests to officially join the East Mediterranean Gas Forum.
She added in a press statement that the Deputy Assistant US Secretary of Energy also expressed his country’s desire to join the forum as a permanent observer.
The statement added that the request of France and the United States came during the third ministerial meeting of the forum held on Thursday in Cairo.
The Minister of Petroleum, Tariq Al-Mulla, said that the requests from the founding members of the forum will be approved according to its statute, according to the statement.
Membership in the forum, which was established in January 2019, includes: “Egypt, Israel, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority”.
Any of the eastern Mediterranean countries producing or consuming gas, or transit countries, can join the forum according to what Egypt announced, which is the forum’s headquarters earlier.
