German coach Juergen Klopp said that the hosting of the African Cup of Nations in the winter season would be a disaster for his team, which includes three of the most prominent African stars.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the holding of the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon in the winter month, reversing its previous decision to convert the tournament to be held in the summer of the 2019 edition, which was hosted by Egyptian lands.
During the press conference leading up to Liverpool’s confrontation with Manchester United in the Premier League, the German coach answered a question about how his team was affected by the decision to hold the African Cup of Nations in the winter, saying: “Holding the tournament in January is a disaster for us.”
The Egyptian Liverpool Mohamed Salah includes the Premier League’s top scorer in the last two seasons, the best African player in 2017 and 2018, and Senegalese Sadio Mane, Salah’s partner in the top scorer for Premier League last season, and the best African player in 2019 in addition to the Guinean Nabi Kita.
