English club Aston Villa announced today, Monday, the signing of the Spanish goalkeeper, Pepe Reina, on loan from Milan until the end of the season.
Coach Dean Smith has chosen the 37-year-old veteran Rina to replace Tom Heaton, who suffered a knee injury against Burnley on the first day of the New Year and will be out of the rest of the season.
And previously, Rina had played in the Premier League with Liverpool 394 games between 2005 and 2014, during which he loaned him to Napoli in his last season with “Reds”, before he signed with Bayern Munich (2014-2015), then Napoli again (2015-2018), up to Milan, after he started his career in the age groups of Barcelona and then the first team (2000-2002) before leaving him to defend the Villarreal den (2002-2005).
Reina, who has represented his country in 36 internationals, may begin his return trip to “Premier League” next Saturday in the match against Brighton.
Aston Villa is 18th in the relegation zone with 21 points from 22 games, and in his last game he suffered a severe 1-6 loss against defending champions Manchester City in the past two seasons and runners-up in the current season.
