Cairo newspapers issued today, Wednesday morning, highlighted the talks of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi yesterday with Giuseppe Conte, Prime Minister of Italy, regarding the developments of the Libyan crisis. The newspapers also highlighted the combat activities of the “Qadir 2020” maneuver.
On its front page, under the title “Egyptian-Italian Consensus to Support the Political Settlement of the Libyan Crisis,” Al-Ahram newspaper reported that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi discussed the developments of the Libyan crisis yesterday at the Federal Palace with the Prime Minister of Italy in light of the imminent holding of the Berlin conference for Libya. Intensify joint efforts to support the efforts of the political settlement to reach a comprehensive solution to the issue in a manner that restores stability in Libya and supports its national capabilities and institutions and preserves its territorial integrity and sovereignty and preserves its resources.
The newspaper quoted Ambassador Bassam Rady, a presidential spokesman, as saying that the President expressed, at the beginning of the meeting, his welcome to the Italian Prime Minister in Cairo, appreciating the close relations that bring the two countries together and the mutual interest in developing areas of joint cooperation.
The President stressed the importance that Egypt attaches to developing those relations in its various dimensions during the coming stage, as well as strengthening the existing bilateral coordination and cooperation between the two countries to address many regional challenges in the Mediterranean region.
The newspaper stated that the meeting touched on the latest developments related to the ongoing investigations in the case of the Italian student Giulio Regeni, in which the President reiterated Egypt’s endeavor to reach the truth, stressing full support for the current joint and urgent cooperation between the competent authorities in both Egypt and Italy to uncover the circumstances of the case.
“Al-Ahram” added that the Italian Prime Minister expressed his happiness with visiting Cairo .. pointing to what this visit represents from a clear message of the strength of the historical ties that bind the two countries, stressing the Italian government’s keenness to consolidate and advance these relations in addition to the continuation of coordination towards regional issues of common concern. Especially in light of the pivotal role played by Egypt as a basic pillar for security and stability in the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean region.
