On Tuesday evening, the two leaders of the Renaissance movement, Hisham Al-Areed, son of the party’s most prominent leader and Interior Minister Ali Al-Areed, and Ziad Boumakhleh announced their resignation from the party, after years of activity inside its structures, without revealing the reasons that led them to leave the party.
Observers believe that the succession of resignations, which has become a landmark in the Ennahda Movement, is evidence of a rift and schism within its ranks and reflects a struggle for relocation within it, which may indicate a structural crisis within it during the coming months, with the approaching date of its national conference, which will witness intense competition. On the succession of Ghannouchi in the presidency of the party.
In this context, political analyst Bassam Hamdi considered that the resignations taking place in the Renaissance movement are “a method of protest against the administrative mistakes made by the movement’s leader Rashid Ghannouchi and some of his close relatives and in-laws, proving that the differences in the core of the Renaissance movement are deep and not just differences, and show It is also the result of despair from trying to participate in the decision in exchange for Ghannouchi’s unilateral decision-making. ”
Suspicion of corruption
Hamdi believes in a statement to Al-Arabiya.net that the Renaissance’s failure to form a government and install it after its rejection from Parliament is the drop that overflowed the cup, especially since an important number of the movement’s leaders were not satisfied with assigning Habib al-Jamali to form it and suggested other personalities to take over, but he believes that This fact or reason is like a tree that hides the forest, pointing to other reasons that prompted some of the leaders of Ennahda to resign, including what concerns suspicion of internal financial corruption and the acquisition of Ghannouchi and some of the people close to him on the movement’s financial resources and the way to spend it.
And in late November, the movement witnessed the resignation of its Secretary-General Ziyad al-Adhari, in protest against the current path followed by the movement and its wrong and dangerous options, which put the country on a risky railway, just two months after the resignation of the director of Ghannouchi’s office, Zubair al-Shahoudi, after the party’s defeat in the elections Presidentialism and its failure to attract voters and his call for Ghannouchi to retire from politics, to stay with his house, and to remove his son-in-law, Rafik Abdel Salam, from the party.
In this regard, Hamdi expected other resignations in the coming period, with the possibility of widening the circle of disputes, after the decline in the renaissance representation in the prospective government and its limitation on the participation of parties in the government with only three or four ministries, which would create a stampede between their leaders and a competition for a ministerial portfolio. Also, with the proximity of its national conference, which will witness intense competition between lists and leaders of the movement over the succession of Rashid al-Ghannushi at the head of the party.
