Al-Ahly club is playing one of its most important matches in the current edition of the African Champions League, when it hosts the Tunisian coastal star in Al-Salam stadium, on Sunday evening.
Al-Ahly enters the game with seven points, and they are third in the group standings, behind the leading star with nine points, but they both played four games only.
Al-Hilal Al-Sudani is ranked second after playing the current round match, the fifth, while Zimbabwe’s champion Platinum comes in the bottom one point, losing all hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals.
Al-Ahly wants to drop the star by beating him in order to seize the group’s lead, to increase his progression rates to the next round of the African Championship.
The seemingly complex group, during which Al-Ahly is required to win the star, and then think about facing Al-Hilal in Sudan in the last round, to settle his card in the next round.
Al-Ahly’s faltering in front of the star will make it more difficult to face Al-Ahly, which is not what the Egyptian league champion desires, as he aspires to go to Sudan with more than one opportunity to qualify.
The confrontation between the two teams, which took place at Rades Stadium, during which the star managed to snatch the three points by winning a clean goal in the opening of the group stage.
But the history of the two sides’ confrontations often tends to Al-Ahly in the meetings held in Egypt, as he excelled in the last of them with six goals for two in October 2017, after he excelled in the previous one that was held in 2015 with a clean goal.
Al-Ahly’s list in the confrontation witnesses the first presence of the newly arrived Senegalese Alio Badji on the team in the January transfers, while witnessing the absence of Hossam Ashour for technical reasons.
Salah Mohsen is also absent from the list as his departure approaches, seconding to the team, in addition to the absence of Saleh Jumah, with the injured duo Ramadan Sobhi and Saad Samir.
As for the coastal star, he arrived in Cairo with a short list from the trio of Soleimani Coulibaly, Maher Al-Hanashi and Yassin Al-Shekhawi, in addition to the goalkeeper Makram Al-Badiri, who is absent for suspension due to his expulsion in front of Al-Hilal Sudanese last round.
