Zamalek secured the Champions League quarter-finals, Zambian ZESCO United tied with Primero de Augusto 1-1 in the two teams’ match held today Saturday in the fifth round of the African Champions League group stage in Levi Mwanawasa stadium.
The balance of ZESCO and Primero de Augusto became 3 points, thus Zamalek, who qualified for 8 points, qualified in second place in the first group after Mazembe, who clinched the lead.
ZESCO entered the match and had no hope of qualification due to Zamalek’s superiority in direct confrontations, but he managed to achieve the result that eliminated Primero de Augusto before hosting Zamalek in the last round in Angola.
The two teams appeared during the first half at a modest level, and the goal was absent from the goals in light of the lack of motivation at ZESCO United, while Primero de Augusto did not provide his intercession in order to reach the goal.
ZESCO United advanced in the 50th minute of the match with Kalingo, who got a cross from the right side and hit a superb header in the Angolan goal.
The match was completely reversed in favor of ZESCO, in the second half, and he controlled the first quarter of an hour, and he managed to threaten the goal of Primero de Augusto with more than one opportunity, which almost completely settled the game in his favor.
Primero de Augusto returned in the score, 69 minutes into the match, through Ari Babel Afonso, who hit the ball from outside the penalty area.
Neither team was able to reach the other goal in the rest of the match, because the result was expected by the Zamalek club fans in order to resolve the qualification for the quarter-finals.
