Ahmed Mortada Mansour, a member of the Zamalek club, revealed that submitting the date of his team’s match against Esperance in the CAF Champions League will postpone the top match against Al-Ahly in the league.
Zamalek Council member added in statements on “TEN” screen this evening, Saturday, “So far we have not received an official letter from the African Union indicating the presentation of the Esperance match.”
He continued: “Al-Ahly match is on 24th and facing Esperance on 29th. This will not affect the date of the league match in the league, but if the opposite happens, I think the summit will be postponed.”
Zamalek is scheduled to play against Al-Ahly in the Egyptian Super on Thursday in the Emirates, where the confrontation between the two poles will renew after the Super in the 24th of this month in a postponed match from the fourth week.
Zamalek at the African level will face Tunisian Esperance in the context of the quarter-finals of the African Champions League competition, where the first leg will be held in Cairo, with the return leg to be held on the “Olympic” stadium in Brads next March.
Mortada Mansour, president of the Zamalek club, had announced earlier his refusal to face Al-Ahly in the league competition because of the date of the return of the white team from the Emirates only two days before the summit match.
On the other hand, the Egyptian Football Association issued a recent official statement, confirming that the summit match would be held on schedule without change.
It is worth noting that Zamalek won the African Super Cup yesterday, Friday, after defeating Esperance – the champion of the African Champions League – with three goals versus one goal in a meeting held in the Qatari capital, “Doha”.
