China has reported a sharp drop in the number of new deaths and new infections with the “Corona” virus, but health officials around the world have warned that it is too early to speculate about the outbreak with new infections recorded in other countries.
The Chinese authorities said the mainland had registered 397 new confirmed cases on Friday, down from 889 the previous day. The numbers increased elsewhere as the disease spread to South Korea, Iran, Italy and Lebanon.
In South Korea, the authorities said on Saturday that the number of new infections has doubled, to 433, and indicated that the number may rise dramatically as more than a thousand people were reported to have flu-like symptoms after attending a church event.
Corona has appeared in about 26 countries and regions outside China, and has killed 13 people so far, according to Reuters.
The World Health Organization has expressed concern about the number of cases that have contracted the virus elsewhere without having a clear link to China, and include people who have never traveled to China or had any contact with a confirmed case of the virus.
The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Gebrysos, said that the organization has requested $ 675 million to support the countries most in need, noting that priority is given to 13 countries in Africa because of their relations with China.
Tidros said that, according to the available data, the disease remains mild in 80% of the infected and serious or critical in 20%, and it is fatal in 2% of all cases.
