Amid the injuries hitting the ranks of Mamelodi Sundowns, South African team coach Petso Musimane received good news after the remarkable performance of right-back Nicholas Lokopeni.
The Sundowns played a game against the Chiba United on Saturday in the South African League, and Lukubeni participated from the beginning of the match to make up for the absence of Thabilo Morena, the player who suffered a recent injury that forced him to undergo surgery.
Lukubeni opened his team’s goals in the 2th minute of the match, which ended with the Sundowns winning three unanswered, and according to the newspaper “kickoff”, the 23-year-old was awarded the Man of the Match award.
Lokubeni drew attention to him during the match, although yesterday’s meeting was the second major participation of the player in the league championship this season, where he previously participated in Stellenbosch’s match for 90 minutes, and for only 4 minutes “as an alternative” in the Sundowns match against Golden Arrows.
During comments to the South African player after the match, he said: “We played a good game, but we had to score more goals in the first half, we made the game more difficult for ourselves, and in the second half we had to come back quickly and kill the meeting.”
“I was happy with the result, I got a lot of help during the match from the players,” Lokopeni added. “Morena also tried to help me before that, and he told me what the coach wanted from me and how I could help my team.”
It is worth noting that the Sundowns suffered more than one blow during the past few years after the injury of Thabilo Morena, right-back, and Tebogo Langerman, left-back, and Dennis Onyango, the team’s goalkeeper.
