Al-Ahly announced in an official statement that Turki Al-Sheikh, the honorary president of the club, congratulated Mahmoud Al-Khatib, president of the Red Castle, after the team qualified for the quarter-finals of the African Champions League.
Al-Ahly tied with Al-Hilal Al-Sudan (1-1) at the end of the group stage of the Champions League, to ensure its qualification to the quarter-finals as a runner-up behind the Tunisian coastal star, leaders of the group.
Al-Sheikh had previously revealed a phone call between him and Al-Ahly president, and it was agreed to monitor a reward for players and the technical staff after deciding to qualify for the quarter-finals of the African Championship.
In the quarter-finals of the African Champions League, Al-Ahly awaits a confrontation with Tunisias Esperance, Congolese Mazembe or the South African Sundowns.
Al-Ahly’s statement came through its official website as follows:
Counselor Turki Al-Sheikh, Chairman of the General Authority of Entertainment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the honorary president of the club, were keen to communicate with Al-Ahly officials, and Captain Mahmoud Al-Khatib, Chairman of the Board of Directors, congratulated the ball team to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The Sheikh’s congratulations came in spite of the health conditions he is undergoing, and he has undergone more than one minor surgery in America during the last period. The honorary president of the club confirmed his appreciation for the great effort made by the players and the technical staff in the previous games. And in order to continue to support the team, he decided to give the technical staff and players a reward of proficiency, which he had promised before the last confrontation against the Sudanese Crescent, and he wished them success in the next rounds of the tournament, and to assist Al-Ahly fans with the continental title. For his part, Captain Mahmoud Al-Khatib expressed his club’s appreciation and management for supporting Chancellor Turki Al-Sheikh, and his constant interest in the football team’s march, despite his health troubles, and wished him complete recovery and return to his homeland and fans.
