A compromise satisfies Cairo and Addis Ababa … Russia comments on the Renaissance Dam crisis

Today, Thursday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the Renaissance Dam crisis between Egypt and Ethiopia, noting that the issue was discussed during the “Russia-Africa” summit in Sochi.

According to Russia Today, Zakharova indicated during a press conference that Moscow offered to mediate a solution to the crisis between the two parties during the summit, and that Russia has close ties with Cairo and Addis Ababa.

She said: “We are with the parties to the crisis to find a compromise that satisfies both parties, and that is on the principle of equality and in accordance with international laws and norms.”

Egypt objects to the mechanism of filling and storing the Ethiopian Dam, which has been built since 2011 on the Blue Nile, the main branch of the Nile River at a cost of $ 6 billion, and raises Egypt’s concerns in terms of influencing the volume of its water supply.
