Specialists of the Influenza Research Institute of the Russian Ministry of Health have successfully decoded the genomic genotype of SARS-CoV-2 from a patient with the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The director of the Influenza Research Institute (Smurodentives Institute), Dmitriy Leosnov, stated that the operational genetic analysis of SARS-CoV-2 viruses is crucial to understanding the evolution of the emerging coronavirus and the dynamics of its spread. “The emerging corona virus is new for us, so it is important that we be able to determine the pathway of its spread, entry into our lands, and its transformation. This information will inevitably help in the development of vaccines and antiviral drugs for this new virus,” he added.
The new data has been deposited by researchers in the international database EpiCoV GISAID used by the World Health Organization and scientific research pioneers, to monitor the global development of the Corona virus.
