The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the suspension of Moroccan Raja Casablanca defender Elias Haddad until his interrogation, with the club summoned to investigate against the background of the events that occurred after the end of the Congolese Mazembe match in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Raja Casablanca will play Morocco against Zamalek in the away leg of the African Champions League semi-finals, with the go-to in Morocco, while the two teams will play the return match in Egypt.
“While the referees were inspecting the stadium, there was a confrontation between the Raja players and the TP Mazembe fans near the tunnel,” the Confederation of African Football (CAF) said in a statement on its official website.
Accordingly, the African Union decided:
– To continue investigating the current case, please club officials to send their comments on the incident that occurred during the match in question, by March 15, 2020 at the latest. In addition, they must appear before the Disciplinary Committee at their next meeting to attend an official hearing;
– Player No. 15 Elias Haddad will be suspended immediately and temporarily until the player concerned appears before the disciplinary jury at their next meeting to attend an official hearing.
