And on the difference between the loss of sense of smell and taste due to the Corona virus or other reasons, Dr. Muhammad Ezz Al-Arab, Professor of Internal Medicine at the National Institute of Liver and Infectious Diseases, said that the loss of the two cases occurs as a result of acute infections in the upper respiratory tract, or temporary loss due to irritation of the lining of the nose due to allergic rhinitis Or the common cold, and approximately 13% of people over the age of 40 have a marked impairment of their sense of smell.
Ezz Al-Arab added to Al-Watan that losing the sense of smell and taste cannot be considered a confirmed infection with the Corona virus, noting that since the loss of the sense of smell and taste accompanied severe heat that lasted for more than 24 hours, severe fatigue, and muscle pain, especially in the chest area, a suspicion Corona virus infection.
The Professor of Preventive Medicine emphasized that if the incidence of loss of sense of smell and taste is only without the rest of these symptoms, then it is not a case of corona.
And about the procedures that must be followed when losing smell, he said: “It is necessary to isolate the house for a period of at least two weeks, and allocate a special room, well ventilated, and to use the muzzle when leaving the room, and put food on a table in front of the room door.”
