Infection of the President of South Sudan with the Corona virus

According to the Sudanese newspaper, Al-Michar, President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the President of South Sudan, was infected with the Coruna virus, after contacting his first deputy, Dr. Riak Machar and General Yao Yao.

Private sources in the South Sudan government told the newspaper that the government had kept secret of the announcement of Salva Kiir’s infection, and he was subjected to a laboratory examination and a sample taken from him, and the result confirmed that he was infected with Corona virus as a result of contact.

The sources indicated that more than 58 government officials were infected with the virus as a result of contact.

The office of Rick Machar, the vice president of South Sudan, announced in a statement on Monday that tests had proven that Machar and his wife, Angelina Teny, had contracted the Corona virus.

He added that the tests proved that “a number of his office employees and bodyguards” had been infected with Covid-19.

The General Command of the Armed Forces had issued orders to prepare and equip a military transport plane with large quantities of medical and pharmaceutical assistance provided by the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of South Sudan to help it overcome the Corona virus in light of the successive crises to which the Republic of South Sudan is subject, under the guidance of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

This came according to the official page of the military spokesman for the armed forces on the social networking site «Facebook», Tuesday.

The aid shipment includes large quantities of medicines, medical supplies, disinfectants and protective clothing for medical personnel, as well as large quantities of infant formula.

This assistance confirms Egypt’s pioneering role towards the African brothers and the consolidation of cooperation and historical ties that unite Egypt with the countries of the continent.
