With the spread of the Corona pandemic that invades the world, people living with chronic diseases face an increasing threat to their lives.

New research has revealed that people with type 2 diabetes are twice as likely to die of corona virus than others, and obesity also increases this risk, according to what the Arabic Net website quoted from the British newspaper Daily Mail.

A third of deaths due to the virus occurred among individuals with diabetes, which was associated with being overweight and not exercising.

In addition, the study, conducted by the National Health Service and the Imperial College in London, found that people with type 1 diabetes – not related to obesity – were three and a half times more likely to die.

The results provide further evidence that certain groups of patients are at greater risk of developing lethal complications from the virus.

However, the study also indicates that lifestyle severely affects a person’s response to the virus.

23,804 patients died in England

The principal investigator of the study, Professor Jonathan Falabge, Director of Diabetes and Obesity at the National Health Service, analyzed the deaths of 23,804 patients in England from Corona between March 1 and May 11.

Valabji, a Diabetes Consultant at Imperial College Hospitals, also found that 31.4% of the deceased had type 2 diabetes, and 1.5% had type 1 diabetes.

The study also found that people with type 2 diabetes double their risk if they were severely obese, with a BMI above 40.

In addition, people with type 2 diabetes who also have high levels of glucose in their blood have a 60% risk of death.

Valabgi said: “This research shows the severity of coronavirus infection in people with diabetes and the different risks for type 1 and type 2 diabetes patients. More importantly, it also shows that high levels of blood glucose and obesity increase the risk of death due to corona in people with one of two types. Diabetes. ”
