Dr. Mona Abdel-Maksoud, Secretary General of the General Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, said that in light of the anxiety of citizens of the emerging Corona virus (Covid 19), it is normal for them to have an optional attention, by following up the number of new cases of Corona virus announced by the Ministry of Health and Population every day. .
She added, in a dialogue broadcast by the Ministry of Health and Population, that there is a disconnect between the social media and the truth in the Egyptian street. In light of the waves of anxiety on the communication sites, we find the street full of people who do not take the Corona virus into account, and without taking any means to protect them.
She pointed to the need for a balance between the street and the social media, by reducing anxiety and communicating information to the man on the street without intimidating him, and to clarify that there is a virus that must be backed up, and that preventive protection methods should be used.
She explained that the General Secretariat of Mental Health we had a hot line that works during the official work period only, but after the emergence of the crisis it was activated for 24 hours throughout the week, and doctors and psychologists work on it to respond to complaints immediately.
Abd al-Maqsoud emphasized that psychiatrists cannot exist on their own inside the isolation hospitals, for several reasons, the most important of which is overcrowding, stressing at the same time the need to provide psychological support, to health and medical service providers, all of the isolation hospitals staff, and their hotline, and to the injured himself because his injury makes him In need of psychological support, and for citizens to answer their inquiries throughout the day.
She pointed out that children in adolescence must be treated in a manner that has respect, so that we can influence them and advise them on the Corona virus, and prevent habits that expose them to infection, and for young children, a daily routine and activities are done, to reduce their boredom from isolation at home, and keep them away from Electronic devices as much as possible.
The Secretary-General of the General Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment stressed the necessity of continuous cleaning of the house and sterilization without exaggerating it, so that the people of the house do not feel anxious, saying: “We need fear that protects us, not fear that tends us to harm us.”
