Uber introduced new safety measures in its vehicles to adapt to the “new standards” in light of the Covid-19 epidemic, and it includes mandatory muzzle rest for drivers and passengers alike, at a time when US countries and states have begun a gradual lifting of stone measures. This world leader in fare services has adopted recommendations from health authorities, including sterilizing cars, keeping windows open and staying home if symptoms appear. But it went further by imposing a muzzle on its vehicles in North America, India and most of its markets in Europe and Latin America. Starting on Monday, drivers wishing to transfer selfie (selfie) customers will have to obtain application approval for their work after ensuring that the equipment is correct.

“Self-documentation is a good thing, but verification is also important in some cases,” Sachen Kansal, product manager for Uber, told a video conference. Since the adoption of quarantine measures in Europe and North America, Uber encourages its users to stay with their homes and has even posted ads bearing the message, “Thank you for not moving you through Uber.” The company also canceled a service that shares flights with other passengers (“Uber Ball”) with mandatory rides at the rear of the vehicle. In light of the sharp decline in its activity, Uber was forced to cut 3,700 jobs (approximately 14% of the total number of employees in the company at the end of last year). However, the group hopes to gradually restore its activity with the commencement of lifting quarantine measures globally, especially thanks to people wishing to move around while avoiding joint transportation. However, Sachin Kansal told AFP that “expectations about (hygiene) standards will increase. We have cautious optimism about people wanting to use Uber again, and we want to be on the alert.” The group has allocated $ 50 million to supply products intended for prevention during the epidemic period, from masks to sterile wipes to sterilizing bottles.
