NASA announced on Wednesday that the Mars Exploration Probe will be launched on July 17.
The “NASA” said in a press statement that the probe, which weighs one kilogram, will be launched on the “Atlas V” missile from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
The probe, the size of a small car, is slated to land on the Red Planet in February next year.
The probe was designed to search for signs of microbial life in the past, to study the climate and geology of Mars, as well as to collect and store rock and soil samples.
