Shukry: The recent aggression against Libya cannot remain unchecked

Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, emphasized that the recent and direct aggression against Libya led to an unprecedented escalation in the field that represents a real threat to the stability of the region, and that it cannot remain without a deterrent response, because when Egypt wavers its various options in Libya, the matter must be taken with due diligence.

This came in a speech by the Minister of Foreign Affairs today, Tuesday, at the extraordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, which was held today, Tuesday, through the video conference feature.

The Foreign Minister stressed Egypt’s steadfast stance on the Libyan crisis represented in the necessity of reaching a comprehensive political solution, preserving the unity and territorial integrity of Libya, and exerting all efforts to restore the Libyan state and its national institutions to its natural role in order to restore stability to Libya and achieve the aspirations of the brotherly Libyan people.

From this standpoint, he said, Egypt was keen to work through all diplomatic means to bridge the points of view between the various Libyans with national Libyan orientations and bridge the gap between them.

He added, “It is in implementation of this vision. Egypt has been involved in all international initiatives aimed at reaching a political settlement in Libya. Indeed, it embraced the Libyan / Libyan political initiative launched by the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament and the leader of the Libyan army with the participation and patronage of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on June 6, 2020 represented in declaring Cairo, which is fully consistent with the Berlin summaries and international resolutions related to Libya. “

He affirmed Egypt’s great interest in the success of all Berlin’s political and economic tracks, as well as the (5 + 5) path that will put in place the agreed security and military arrangements, a path Egypt strongly supports in coordination with the efforts of the United Nations.

On the other hand, the Foreign Minister made clear that there are a lot of procedures and policies that must be followed to restore the Libyan economy to recovery. The reform of institutions under the parliament’s view is strongly proposed and the activation of the Oil Corporation and the Central Bank in a framework of transparency, equitable distribution of wealth and control of exchange aspects, something that will be discussed within the path The economist, which Egypt strongly contributes in pushing.

He stressed that the continuation of some regional parties to direct interventions on the Libyan territories, in addition to its sabotage policy by transferring foreign mercenaries and terrorists from Syria to Libya and supporting terrorist organizations and armed militias, not only destabilizes the Libyan internal security, but its negative effects extend to all parts of our Arab region and region The Mediterranean inevitably obliges our countries to put an end to these destabilizing practices of regional and international peace and security.

The Minister pointed out that Egypt has consistently warned against the danger of the proliferation of terrorist groups and armed militias in Libya, and to reject any proposals that lead to the participation of the forces of extremism and terrorism in the process of negotiating the future of this dear neighbor, and stressed that Egypt has not and will not tolerate terrorism and its supporters, and will not fail to Take every possible measure to prevent the sister Libya and its noble and proud people from eventually falling under the control of these criminal groups.

He stressed that achieving stability and security in Libya is essentially a Libyan and Arab duty and responsibility, and it requires a sincere Arab effort to bring the Libyans closer and strengthen everything that is common among them as the sons of one homeland, to confront every external aggression that holds special agendas and greeds for the wealth and resources of the Libyan people, and address in all decisiveness And a force for aggressive policies that represent a grave threat to Arab national security in all its dimensions, from the ocean to the Gulf.

Shukri said, “The recent and direct aggression against Libya led to an unprecedented escalation in the field that represents a real threat to the stability of the region, as it cannot remain without a deterrent response, because when Egypt wavers its various options in Libya, the matter must be taken with due diligence.”

At the same time, he affirmed that Egypt will continue to seek to preserve the chances of a political solution, protect it and protect it from the threats of those who only understand the language of violence and a military solution. The political solution assumes a field balance that pushes the parties towards the option of negotiation, and this balance is what Egypt is keen on and will not allow it to be broken.

He declared that Egypt presented to the esteemed council in its emergency meeting a draft resolution affirming the commitment to the unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national integrity of Libya, and to reject external interventions in Libya that undermine the chances of establishing sustainable peace, and calls for an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Libyan lands and waters and dismantling Militia and surrender their weapons. Shukry had started his speech by thanking His Excellency Minister Yusuf bin Alawi, the owners of the foreign ministers of the sisterly Arab countries and the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States for responding quickly to Egypt’s request to hold this emergency meeting to discuss the developments of the Libyan crisis.
