On some websites and social media pages, news spread about 6 billion pounds wasted to renew the closed mosques during the Corona pandemic.

The Media Center of the Council of Ministers contacted the Ministry of Awqaf, which denied these reports, confirming that it is not correct to waste 6 billion pounds to renew the mosques closed during the Corona pandemic.

She explained that the 6 billion pounds is the total of what the ministry spent over the past 6 years from 2014 to 2020, to replace, renovate and rebuild mosques that were closed to their gravity, as well as the maintenance, restoration and furnishing of all mosques at the republic level, including ancient mosques.

In a related context, the Ministry has prepared programs to train and qualify imams, as well as improve their financial conditions, in addition to spending on serving the Holy Qur’an, scientific and Quranic schools, Islamic culture centers, and centers for preparing Holy Qur’an memorizers, printing, translation, and publishing at a total cost of about 700 million pounds annually, as well as The contribution has been made in providing decent housing, building schools, and supporting the first families with informal care and employment at a total cost of about one billion and 600 million pounds, during the past six years.
