Lieutenant General Kamel, the Minister of Transport, revealed that the Railways Authority achieved a budget deficit of 6 billion pounds, explaining: “My operating expenses are 10 billion, while the authority’s revenues reach 4 billion pounds, from the proceeds of tickets, fines, and selling of scrap, Advertisements and investment of the authority’s land. ”
The Minister of Transport added, during a phone call to the program “Al-Hekaya”, broadcast on Mbc Egypt, that the prices of tickets will be raised in one case “when we provide the service to the public in a manner that is worthy of the citizen.”
He continued, “I want to say that the (Menouf-Tanta) line is 2 pounds, how?? But we are dear and we have to serve our people because the service is not well developed.”
«When do we raise the price of tickets?», About increasing the price of tickets, «the minister» revealed that raising the prices is the only solution to bridge the deficit, stressing that «the public will see for himself that the service provided by the railway is worth the increase».
