Apple today announced CarKey, which is a way to wirelessly unlock your car using the iPhone, during the WWDC 2020 events, as the feature is part of the newly unveiled iOS 14, and it will work via NFC, as Apple says, and the first car will be supported is the BMW 2021 series The new 5, which will be released next month, and Apple says it is working on an industry-standard that would use the new ultra-wide U1 chip rather than relying solely on NFC.

Once you associate an iPhone or Apple Watch with a car that supports CarKey, if you want to unlock your car, you will only need to carry your Apple device near the NFC reader in your car, and you will be asked to authenticate using Face ID or Touch ID before unlocking the car, or you can Set up Quick Mode to bypass biometric authentication, and you can also share access with others via iMessage, and Apple says the feature will support iOS 13 as well.

Other car manufacturers already offer numeric keys that have similar functions, but they are separate applications, not directly placed in Apple’s operating systems, with all the benefits they can provide, and having a central location in iOS for car keys may allow you to keep the numeric keys of several cars in one place .

CarKey can use the Digital Key Release 2.0 specifications from the Auto Delivery Association, which was officially completed in May, and the standard works to “enhance near field communication (NFC) technology for non-contact communication between smartphones and vehicles, and supports an expandable architecture for group certification while reducing Costs,
