Google closes cloud computing project, says no plans to launch service in China

Google said today, Wednesday, that it closed its cloud computing project, “Isolated Region”, and that it had not offered to provide platform services in China, after Bloomberg News reported that the company canceled the project there.

Earlier in the day, Bloomberg said that in May, Google abandoned the project in China and other “politically sensitive” countries, including due to the escalation of geopolitical tensions and the Corona pandemic, but the search engine giant said that closing the project was not for these reasons.

The Isolated Region project was intended to provide cloud computing services to clients and regulators worldwide.
