Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola said he did not expect Liverpool, Tottenham or Arsenal to defend the club, noting that he still had a full season remaining in his contract with the Citizens.
Manchester City is preparing to meet Bournemouth tomorrow evening, in the 36th round of the English Premier League soccer tournament.
The Sports Court acquitted Manchester City of the charge of breaching the rules of fair financial play and decided to lift the penalty imposed on the English club, which required him to be deprived of European participation for two years.
During the pre-match press conference, Guardiola commented on the decision, saying: “I am very happy with this decision. It has shown that everything that has been said about the club is incorrect. We will defend on the field what we won.”
He added: “Yesterday was a good day in football because we are playing with the same rules as the serum of all clubs in Europe, if we had breached the rules of fair financial play we would have been banned, some said that we are lying and deceiving and the presumption of innocence was not present, but our position was proven correct.”
About the response of Tottenham coach Jose Mourinho and Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp, the Catalan said: “I do not expect Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea or Wolverhampton, to defend us, but we have the right to defend ourselves when we think that what we did is right.” (Learn about Klopp’s opinion on City’s ban)
Asked about the reaction of Javier Tepas, president of the Spanish League after repealing the European ban, he said: “Tepas must be jealous of English football, he is a wonderful legal expert, he must be concerned about the status of the Spanish league and focus on it, we will be in the league Champions next season, Mr. Tipas, because what we did we did right. ” (See the comment of Tibas)
And about his future with the club, Guardiola said: “Now is not the time, we have a month to finish the season, and I have a full season with the team and it is a long time, my opinion has not changed, maybe I will be able to stay here for a longer time.”
