Dr. Alaa al-Zawahiri, a member of the Technical Committee for the Renaissance Dam negotiations and a professor of engineering at Cairo University, considered the statements issued by a number of officials in the Ethiopian government, a political teenager, Egypt is above the response to, noting that the matter will not pass so easily.
Al-Zawahiri added, in exclusive statements to “Masrawy,” that if the three countries (Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia) agree before next October, there will be no problem, but if the consensus does not occur, Egypt will resort to unilateral action.
Al-Zawahiri explained that the Ethiopian statements were aimed primarily at addressing the inside, which was and is still burning.
A member of the technical committee emphasized that Egypt was following the first step and we knew that the bottom parts of the dam were closed, explaining that Ethiopia wants these actions to announce that Egypt is withdrawing from the negotiations; Addis Ababa to the world and says Egypt does not want peaceful solutions.
He continued: “We will not be dragged into these teenage actions, and announcing the first filling of Lake Al-Sadd, has only caused embarrassment to the African Union, all this confirms day after day, that the world sees who wants peace and who wants to complicate matters.”
A member of the Technical Committee for the Renaissance Dam negotiations, pointed out that next week will set the date for the resumption of the tripartite negotiations, stressing that the agenda will be prepared in accordance with the recommendations of the African mini summit.
The African Miniature Summit issued recommendations on the necessity to oblige all parties to sign a binding legal agreement between the three countries, agree on the rules for filling and operating the Renaissance Dam, and not to discuss future projects or shares of the Nile River.
