Corona virus symptoms are multiple, and although it is a respiratory disease, there are a number of warning signs related to digestive symptoms.
Many reports indicate that people with COVID-19 experience gastrointestinal symptoms along with or before respiratory symptoms.
A review published in the journal BJS looked at the existing literature to provide a classification of the most common gastrointestinal symptoms to date.

A total of 25,210 patients were included in an analysis of 75 studies from China and 18 studies from other countries. According to the review, loss of appetite and diarrhea were the most common gastrointestinal symptoms, followed by nausea and vomiting.

The study revealed that abdominal pain is relatively rare, accounting for only a small percentage of cases inside and outside China.

It was reported that in China, the incidence of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea was much higher in patients within Hubei Province.

While the incidence of diarrhea and abdominal pain was significantly lower in patients from China compared to other countries.

The review also found that gastrointestinal symptoms were associated with a “more serious disease course” and a greater percentage of admission to the intensive care unit (ICU).

The researchers concluded that gastrointestinal symptoms are common clinical manifestations of COVID-19.
