Science has proven that wearing a mask, social distancing, and diligent hand hygiene are all effective measures when it comes to preventing the spread of viruses, colds and especially Corona, however, there are other simple rituals for self-protection.
Dr. Lone Jones, a Texas family medicine physician, believes that washing your nose may keep you healthy, according to “Eatthis”.
Jones says that this habit is an effective way to prevent viruses, by supporting our nasal defenses, viruses can be eliminated when the viral load is lighter, and the virus is still present in the tissues of the upper respiratory tract before it spreads to the lungs.
But Dr. Peter Mannes, a doctor of rhinology and medicine at Yale University and a skull base surgeon, points out that there have been no robust scientific studies supporting this habit, such as preventing coronavirus, saying: “The method is often used to get rid of allergens and mucus, and it is associated with improved symptoms in patients. Those who suffer from nasal and sinus disorders, however, there is no conclusive evidence that it will protect against corona infection, “as stated by the” ETNT Health “site.
According to one study conducted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, America, there are other benefits of rinsing the nose, especially for those who suffer from chronic sinus problems, which can lead to a decrease in symptoms, such as congestion and runny nose, and a decrease in the use of nasal sprays and antibiotics.
Numerous clinical trials have been conducted, and most of them agree that nasal lavage is safe and provides significant improvements in a wide range of allergy symptoms.
The FDA recommends the following types of water:
Distilled or sterile water, you can buy it in stores, and it will appear on the label as “distilled” or “sterile”.
Boiled tap water after it has cooled for 3 to 5 minutes until it becomes lukewarm. Previously boiled water can be stored in a clean, closed container for use within 24 hours.
How do you wash your nose?
Tilt your head sideways with your forehead and chin flat, to avoid the flow of liquid into your mouth, then breathe through your mouth open, and insert the nozzle of the container filled with saline into the upper nostril until the liquid is drained through the lower nostril, then wipe your nose, then repeat the procedure, Tilt your head sideways, to the other side.
