Doctors at the Franciscan Hospital at Tanta University performed a rare surgery in which 18 neurologists and anesthetists participated in a patient suffering from a fracture of the first lumbar vertebra and severe curvature and curvature of the vertebrae under the supervision of Dr. Mahmoud Selim, director of the hospital, and a number of medical personnel.

The surgery also included fixation of the posterior vertebrae using slides and screws in addition to surgery from the front outside the peritoneum to remove the body of the fractured vertebra and install an alternative bone network to the body of the vertebra, as this surgery is one of the cases of vertebral deformities resulting from a previous injury to the vertebrae.
The surgery was carried out by a specialized medical team of neurosurgeons at the University Hospital, which included Dr. Essam Abdel Hay Moqbel, Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery, Dr. Ibrahim Shamhout – Teacher of Neurosurgery, and Dr. Ahmed Samir Al Sheikh Ali – Teacher of Neurosurgery and Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aal – Professor of Neurosurgery, Dr. Muhammad Al-Fakharani, Teaching Assistant of Neurosurgery, and Dr. Omar Hisham – Resident in Neurosurgery, under the supervision of Dr. Ali Ibrahim Saif El-Din, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Tanta University.
Dr. Ahmed Sweilem, Deputy Director of the French Teaching Hospital in Tanta, confirmed that this rare surgery had witnessed the participation of 13 doctors from neurology and anesthesia and 5 nurses, with a total of 18, in the medical team, and it was successfully completed and all the hospital capabilities were provided for that process.
