Australian researchers are working on a 15-minute coronavirus test, using bread yeast as the main ingredient.
The Queensland government has given biotechnology company “Changing Technologies” $ 1.07 million in funding to spend on the project, which researchers said on Wednesday works similarly to a pregnancy test.
Lead researcher Yadver Grewal said that a few drops of a special solution are placed on a nasal swab, then the test can be applied to a strip and the result can be obtained within 5 to 15 minutes, depending on the severity of the infection.
He explained that yeast contains particles that can trap the virus.
This cheap, rapid test can be used when entering high-risk areas such as hospitals, aged care facilities and shopping centers.
