The Arab Air Transport Association monitored the expected losses of the sector during 2020 due to the Corona pandemic and the expected recovery scenarios, as Abd al-Wahhab Tuffaha, Secretary-General of the Arab Air Transport Association, explained that he expects the global economy to record a contraction of 4.9% in 2020 compared to 2019, and to record the Arab economy A contraction of 5.7% in 2020 compared to 2019, which is reflected in the travel sector.

He pointed out that the global economy is expected to recover in 2021 and the Arab economy in 2022, based on the rapid recovery scenario, but if this does not happen, both of them will recover in 2023, based on the slow recovery scenario.

Here are the losses of the international and Arab air transport sector and its economic impacts:

1 – Passenger traffic in the world in 2020, compared to 2019, shrank by 54.7%.

2 – Passenger traffic in the Arab world decreased by 57.1% compared to between 2020 and 2019.

3 – The rapid recovery scenario indicates a global and Arab recovery in passenger traffic in 2024.

4 – The slow recovery scenario, indicating a global and Arab recovery in passenger traffic in 2027.

5- The loss in the total contribution of tourism and travel to the global gross product is about $ 5.5 trillion.
