It can lead to psoriasis lesions in places where you have never had it before. This is called the Koebner phenomenon. Examples of injuries that may cause a flare include:

You can do a few things to protect your skin:

Use sunscreen. Short periods of sun exposure can help treat psoriasis, but it is important not to be exposed for long periods of time.

Studies show that smoking and drinking alcohol can worsen psoriasis, and alcohol can be dangerous if you take certain medications for this condition.
