Portuguese club Benfica announced that the team’s defender, Robin Diaz, will move to Manchester City for an initial fee of 48 million pounds.
The 23-year-old was linked with a move to Etihad Stadium during the current summer transfers to strengthen the defense line of the Celestial team.
According to an official statement issued by Benfica, the Portuguese side confirmed that Diaz will move to Manchester City, with Nicolas Otamendi, Citizens’ defender, to join the Portuguese team.
For its part, the Manchester Evening News said that the deal cost the English club’s treasury nearly 65 million pounds (50 million pounds in cash, in addition to the sale of Otamendi for 15 million pounds).
Manchester City was trying to sign Senegalese Calido Coulibaly, Napoli’s defender, during the recent period, but he did not reach an agreement on material requests with the Italian side, who refused to forfeit less than 75 million euros.
It is worth noting that Diaz is a youngster from Benfica Academy, and was promoted to the first team at the beginning of the 17/18 season, and he participated in the club’s jersey during 137 matches in various tournaments (scoring 12 goals and making 6 successful assists).
