The Egyptian club Al-Ahly contacted the Italian coach, Luciano Spalletti, in order to lead the team during the next stage, in the event of the departure of the current Swiss coach Rene Fyler.
The Italian site “inews24” confirmed that Al-Ahly had requested the services of Spalletti, who was one of the most prominent candidates to lead him also before contracting with Fyler, at the end of 2019.
Valeria Cardillo, a journalist for the Italian “Punto Novo” radio, told “Yallakora” that advanced negotiations had brought together representatives of Al-Ahly and the Italian coach in recent days.
Cardillo added, “There is (great) chemistry between the two parties, and Spalletti wants to take a new adventure of its kind on his coaching career, but there are no advanced steps yet.”
Amir Tawfiq, director of Al-Ahly Marketing and Contracting Department, confirmed in televised statements in October of last year that Al-Ahly contacted Spalletti to succeed his former coach Martin Lasarte, but the negotiations were not successful.
A great controversy was raised about the future of technical director Rene Fyler with Al-Ahly during the past days, as the Swiss coach has the right to cancel his contract without penalty clause between the first and tenth of next October, and Al-Ahly confirmed in an official statement that he will decide Fyler’s fate next Thursday.
Spalletti, 61, led many Italian clubs during his career, most notably Roma and Internazionale, as well as the Russian Zenit St Petersburg team, and the Egyptian Mohamed Salah, the current English football star, played under his leadership in the Italian capital’s team.
