Seven CIS countries test combat readiness for joint air defense

Seven countries from the Commonwealth of Independent States are testing the combat readiness of the joint air defense system, through the exercises that began Friday.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said that during that training will be used to use air defense forces against aircraft that violate the borders of the CIS countries.

And participating in the exercises, Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The exercises are being administered from the Russian Air Force Command Center in Moscow.

The ministry added, “Training will be conducted on issues related to the use of air defense forces to deal with aircraft that violate the rules for the use of airspace, and aircraft that violate the borders of member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and to provide assistance to the crews of hijacked and accident-exposed aircraft.”

More than 130 command centers in seven countries and more than 60 aircraft, including MiG-29, Su-27, MiG-31, and Yak-130 fighters are participating in the exercises. Su-24 and Su-34, as well as Su-25, Tu-22 and Tu-160 bombers.
