The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ambassador Ahmed Aboul Gheit, confirmed that the peace agreement between the United Arab Emirates and Israel stopped the annexation plan for the West Bank.
And Aboul Gheit indicated, in televised statements, on Sunday evening, that he fully understood the Palestinian fears about the peace agreement between Abu Dhabi And Tel Aviv, saying: “I understand very much the Palestinian concern, and the Palestinian feeling that something happened, but on the other side, the UAE has understood and imposed on Israel to freeze the annexation of Palestinian lands, and this is a historic event.”
Aboul Gheit added, “Some people may say that the annexation has stopped and I imagine that the annexation was coming, and Israel imagines that it has the power to impose its will on the Arab world at this moment as a result of the accumulations over the last ten years.”
The Secretary-General emphasized that the annexation will not return to him again, adding: “The guarantee in this is the emerging new Arab relations. Arab countries from 1993 to 1995 and after the Oslo Accords moved to open relations with Israel, through embassies.”
He pointed out that “if Israel returns to the threat of annexation, and as soon as that returns, then the Arab countries will have to end relations because they are based on a condition, which is non-annexation.”
