A report published by researchers in the “American Neurology Journal”, today, Thursday, revealed that stroke may be the first symptom of infection in the body with the emerging coronavirus in younger sufferers.
The research was conducted on 160 patients with Coronavirus and stroke, where it was found that about half of the patients under the age of 50 years were not showing symptoms at the time of stroke.
The research, which was reported on the “Media Scape” medical site, stated that although younger patients are more at risk of stroke, the risk of death was greater among elderly people with chronic diseases and suffering from severe respiratory symptoms due to Corona.
The idea of conducting the research came after reports circulated through social media about people with Coronavirus who had suffered strokes.
The researchers collected reports and data on cases from Canada, the United States of America and Iran, as well as examined hospital death rates due to stroke.
Although doctors have succeeded in identifying some of the common symptoms of the virus, they may differ in number and severity from one infected person to another, while other infected people do not show symptoms.
The lead author of the research, Luciano Sebosoto, associate professor of stroke research in Canada, said the most striking finding is that patients under the age of 50 may have a stroke as their first symptom.
