The Secretary-General of the Sudanese “Umma” party, Al-Watheq Al-Barir, announced an emergency meeting of the party on Saturday to discuss its position on the government’s decision to normalize relations with Israel, and assess the situation.
He said, “Our position as a party regarding removing Sudan from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism is based on principled constants, that it is an acquired right after the glorious December revolution.” The former regime is the one who caused the imposition of terrorism on the Sudanese people. ”
He added, “The removal of Sudan’s name from the terrorism list is linked to political blackmail, and the right to normalization must be left to a democratic government that has the necessary legitimacy to make decisions in the name of the people.”
The National Consensus Alliance, which includes major powers in Sudan, attacked the government’s decision to normalize relations with Israel, and called for its freezing.
The Consensus Alliance said, in a statement published by the Sudan Tribune website, that “the transitional authority has deliberately violated the constitutional document by proceeding with steps towards normalization.”
The coalition believed that bypassing the constitutional document in terms of the powers and powers it had defined for any of the two councils, and the sovereignty invaded the ministerial powers, and the decision alone on matters of disagreement, was not new.
The coalition considered that “what was done ignoring the public opinion and the popular position and disregarding it,” and added, “We see that our people, who are being isolated and marginalized, in a systematic way, through secret deals, are not bound by the agreements reached by the normalizers.”
The coalition renewed the call to accelerate the formation of the Legislative Council, as a monitoring and legislative body, concerned with reporting on all issues stipulated in the constitutional document.
He warned the concerned authorities of the seriousness of what he called “the approach of challenging the popular will” and its orientations, and urged them to listen before it is too late to the voice of the Sudanese street “and to immediately start correcting, starting with the freezing of any steps towards normalization with the Hebrew state,” according to the statement.
On Friday, the Sudanese transitional government announced its agreement to normalize relations with Israel, and that nothing left for the agreement to enter into force except with the approval of the legislative body.
“The transitional government in Sudan has agreed to normalize relations with the State of Israel, and ratification of the agreement until it enters into force remains the prerogative of the country’s legislative bodies,” the Sudanese News Agency “SUNA” quoted the acting foreign minister, Omar Qamar al-Din.
It is noteworthy that the head of the party, Sadiq al-Mahdi, said, in a press release issued Thursday, that his party would withdraw its support for the transitional government, in case it decided to normalize normalization with Israel.
