Veteran Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani, newly transferred to Manchester United, spoke about his reaction after obtaining the number 7 shirt with the “Red Devils”.
Cavani recently moved to Manchester United after the end of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, to join the England giants on a free transfer, supporting the offensive lines.
The official website of Manchester United held an interview with the 33-year-old, to reveal his opinion about obtaining the number 7 shirt, which was previously worn by prominent stars such as George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
About this, Cavani said: “It is a great number, but the number you put on your shirt will have no effect, but when you have the opportunity to wear the number 7 shirt at Manchester United, which was worn by some of the great players who were legend here in this country and this club.” This is a really good responsibility. I enjoy the challenges. ”
He continued: “It is a wonderful challenge, and an exciting responsibility as well, which I accept with the best will in the world, and as I said, I will work hard to do my best.”
And about his new move in the Premier League, he replied: “It is my chance to attend the Premier League, which is a very attractive league to play in, and being here is a real honor and a new challenge, which really excites me a lot.”
He continued: “I can’t wait to be able to start. I was lucky enough to have played against a lot of English teams, but now it’s my turn to try and compete every weekend and every match in the Premier League.”
Cavani has a wonderful career in the Italian and French League, starting when he was a player in the Palermo team, then he joined Napoli before deciding to leave the Italian league in the summer of 2013, heading to the Parisian team Paris Saint-Germain.
On the personal level, Cavani achieved distinguished individual numbers by obtaining the top scorer award in the Italian league in the season (2012-2013) with 29 goals, and in the French League he was crowned the top scorer in the seasons (2016-2017) with 35 goals and (2017-2018) with a score 28 goals.
