Russian UFC champion Habib Nurmuhamedov burst into tears, after winning the fight against his US rival Justin Gaitji on Saturday in the UAE capital at the UFC 254 tournament.
Habib collapsed in tears in the middle of the ring after winning the first fight after losing his father and coach Abdul Manaf Nurmuhamedov, who died on July 3 of the complications of his infection with the new Corona virus.
When he got up, he took off his gloves and said, “This is my last fight in the UFC. I was hesitant about going into this fight, but it was my father’s dream,” justifying his decision by his desire to spend more time with his mother after his father’s departure.
And the 32-year-old Habib forced his American rival to ask for surrender in the second round of the fight that brought them together on “Battle Island” in Abu Dhabi, after he tightened the screws on his neck with his legs and hands.
This victory is the 29-year-old of the Russian champion in his unbeaten professional career, and it is the third time that he defends the championship belt, while the 31-year-old Gaetji suffers the bitterness of defeat for the third time in his career for 22 victories.
