Musimani said at the press conference after the match: “We were in a difficult confrontation against a strong team that was playing ferociously in order to return to the score after being late with an early goal.”
He added, “We scored an early goal and took advantage of the opportunity we had from the Wydad defense error after strong pressure from our team.”
And he continued, “Muhammad Al-Shennawi was brilliant and blocked a penalty and gave the rest of the team more confidence.”
He continued, “We created several chances in the second half and scored the second goal.”
“I am very happy with the team’s performance on the field, and we played according to a set plan,” he stressed.
“To be honest with you, we could have scored the third or fourth goal,” he noted.
“The midfield played fiercely and aggressively, and all the players performed well and we did not make any mistakes in defense,” he continued.
“I am happy with the result, but I would have been more happy if we scored more goals,” he concluded.
Al-Ahly’s double came through Mohamed Magdy “Afsha” and Ali Maaloul in the fourth and 62nd minutes.
Mohamed El Shennawy, the goalkeeper of the Red Genie, starred to block a penalty kick by Wydad in the final minutes of the first half.
Betso Mosimane, before his debut in the African Championship with Al-Ahly, talked about the Wydad confrontation, saying: “I know Wydad very well. They know Al-Ahly well. But we are here to achieve a positive result, and why shouldn’t we win?”
Musimani said his word and kept his promise to paint Al-Ahly Casablanca in red and is very close to reaching the Africa final.
Al-Ahly is preparing to host Wydad in the semi-final second leg next Friday at Cairo Stadium.
