The Egyptian folk artist Abdel Basit Hammouda has sparked controversy over the past few days, after announcing the death of his sister, Shadia.
Abdul Basit said that his sister died in a Sadr hospital in Abbasiya, but the surprise is that his nephews announced that their mother was alive, accusing their uncle of fraud.
But Abdel Basit explained that he was fulfilling his condolences for the death of a woman whom he considers like his sister, but that his real sister is alive.
He asserted that he did not mean by saying “the one whose sister passed away”, his older sister, but some understood his intention wrongly, and he said: “All Muslims are sisters, and people know that this lady deals with her like my sister and everyone loves her.”
