Two years after a historic final in South America, all River Plate and Boca Juniors giants of Argentine football in the Copa Libertadores final, Al-Ahly and Zamalek giants of Egyptian football made a special event, with the first final between two teams belonging to one country, in the history of the African Champions League.

The 2018 Copa Libertadores final, which brought together the two sides of the “Super El Clasico” match, one of the most famous “Derby” confrontations in the world of football, accompanied by exceptional events, which ended with the postponement of the second leg and its stay in the Spanish capital Madrid, before River Plate won the historic title at the expense of its eternal rival .
The historic event of two teams from one country facing the final of the Latin championship first appeared in the history of the tournament in 2005, when São Paulo and Atletico Paranaense met Brazil, and São Paulo won the title.
The pure Brazilian final was repeated the following year, but defending champion Sao Paulo lost to Internacional, before the historic Argentine final that became world talk in 2018.
The European continent has become accustomed in the new century to special final confrontations, which appeared for the first time in the last years of the twentieth century, when Real Madrid beat Valencia by 3-0, in a pure Spanish Champions League final.

“Premier League” returned to impose its control again, and the historic Spanish figure, when they met Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the most famous continental championship in 2019, and Liverpool won the title.

Al-Ahly and Zamalek met in the face of the African Super Cup in 1994, when Zamalek won the African Club Champions League Cup in 1993, and Al-Ahly won the African Club Cup Winners Cup in the same year, and Zamalek won the historic confrontation that was held in the southern African city of Johannesburg.
The two Egyptian giants have also met four times in the different rounds of the African Champions League, and the balance has tilted in all of those confrontations in favor of Al-Ahly, in 2005, 2008, 2012 and 2013.
