Australia said on Friday it was “very disappointed” with Chinas decision to impose an initial duty on imports of Australian wine.

“Today’s decision is very worrying for development, and it is a decision that Australia will strongly oppose,” Australian Agriculture Minister David Littlebrud said in a statement.

“The Australian government categorically rejects any allegations that wine producers are flooding the Chinese market, and we still believe that there is no basis or any evidence for these allegations,” he stressed.

China said earlier in the day that it will impose temporary measures to combat dumping of its markets on wine imported from Australia, effective Nov. 28.
