Italian authorities and local media said on Saturday that at least 3 people have died in floods that followed torrential rains on the eastern side of the Mediterranean island of Sardinia.
Video footage showed in my home, a town in Noro province, the streets turning into mud rivers, covering cars and flooding the basements of buildings.
“The situation in my house is tragic,” Gianni Lambes, a regional environmental advisor, told reporters. “The mayor told us that two have died and some are still missing.”
A 55-year-old farmer died in a landslide and a 90-year-old man died at his home, according to the Italian news agency ANSA, while emergency services are still searching for the body of a woman in her 90s.
Lampes said a new warning was issued as heavy rain was expected for the entire island on Sunday.
